Caracas, 04/05/2024 - In Official Gazette No. 6,798 Extraordinary dated April 3, 2024, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela promulgated the new Organic Law for the Defense of Guayana Esequiba, effective as of that same day.
The Law provides for the creation of the Guayana Esequiba state within Venezuela, as an autonomous entity with full legal rights and its own territory. This new state covers Guayana Esequiba, limited to the north by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by Brazil, to the east by Guyana and to the west by the states Delta Amacuro and Bolívar. The law also establishes how the public powers and authorities of this new entity will function, with the condition that while the territorial dispute with Guyana is resolved, the city of Tumeremo will be the headquarters of the public powers of the state of Guayana Esequiba. Likewise, it establishes that every political map of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela distributed, reproduced, published or disseminated must include the territory of the Guayana Esequiba state as an integral part of the country.
